10 Downing Food & Wine
writes...
10 Downing's contemporary American seasonal cuisine reflects global influences from Chef Javier De Jesus. The menu is categorized into pure farm and garden categories such as vegetables, greens, grains, legumes, tartares, fish, beef, poultry and pork, and includes our house-made pastas, charcuteries, terrines, pates, ice creams, sorbets, and gelatos. To the fullest extent possible we use whole animals and products from small farms and local providers. A four-course tasting is offered nightly for $49 where guests may choose from dishes offered on the regular menu, which Chef Javier recommends as the best way to experience our variety of flavors and daily offerings.

The Restaurant Week menu was very comprehensive - if you couldn't make a meal from the choices you shouldn't eat out!
The first course I had was an absolutely delicious salad - beets, arrugula, goat cheese - delicious dressing. The main course
I ordered - fried chicken and mac and cheese was totally underseasoned. Looked gorgeous but lacked savor. The desert-
lemon pannacotta was extraordinarily good. Service good natured and timely.

The drink was watery and I couldn't taste the alcohol, I had to ask for bread and when it arrived, it was stale, the chicken pot pie was ok. I thought the prices were way too high for what I got. I know other restaurants with better food at better prices so I will not be returning. Overall, I thought it was mediocre.

Food was real good, shrimp and grits were awesome. Service was good, nice waiter but there were sometimes I wish someone would come around more often just to check. You will be on top of other tables which is fine by me just its nice to know going in.

The food was basically mediocre unless you like evreything drowned in butter. The pasta with scallops had both too much butter and was sticky. The mussels again suffered from butter overkill. 10 Downing is what I would call a good-bad resturant. It puts itself forward as a place for fine dining but fails to deliver aything noteworthy or well prepared. I did, however, like the tuna tartare. And the staff was friendly. Perhaps it was Superbowl night and everyone was into the game.

Marginal dinner at best. The duck fat french fries are underwhelming and I went with the burger at the waiter's (who was good) recommendation of it being a "specialty" and I was disappointed. Hard to tout a burger in NY when you'll be compared to so many heavyweights. I also ordered bacon on the burger and it came w/out it. Was lame.

All foods and drinks were excellent. We went there at restaurant week and the portion was very huge and satisfied. Other foods besides the restraunt week menu were also delicious and the price was reasonable. Their dessert was amazing!!
We will definitely come back soon.

My friends and I came here for restaurant week. The atmosphere was nice and the staff was friendly, but if you are looking for tasty dishes then look elsewhere. The food was either bland or overly salted. The vegetables were rubbery and chewy. I realize restaurant week may not be the best representation of their food, but by the same token, this is also a chance for people to get to know what this restaurant offers. And there wasn't much.

Noisier than usual, shrimp and grits is not what a southerner expects from such, and rest of food was nothing to write home about ...just mediocre.
